Microsoft Publisher Course - Lesson Plan
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to create, edit, and publish a professional-quality document (e.g., a flyer or brochure) using Microsoft Publisher.
Understand what Publisher is and how it differs from Word or PowerPoint.
What is Microsoft Publisher?
Use cases: Flyers, brochures, newsletters, business cards, etc.
Key differences from Microsoft Word
Tour of the interface:
Ribbon
Page Navigation Pane
Design tab
Template selector
Open Publisher and explore the interface with a guided walkthrough.
Learn how to start a publication using templates or a blank canvas.
Choosing a template (flyers, business cards, etc.)
Starting with a blank document
Page setup: orientation, size, margins
Saving your file (.pub format)
Students will create a blank A4 flyer document.
Walkthrough: Save the file as "MyFirstFlyer.pub".
Use Publisher’s tools to design a document layout with text and graphics.
Inserting and formatting:
Text boxes
Pictures (from file/online)
Shapes
WordArt
Using the Design tab:
Color schemes
Font schemes
Backgrounds
Add a header with WordArt.
Insert a photo and format it (crop, border, etc.).
Add at least 2 text boxes with formatted text.
Learn how to properly align and organize elements in the publication.
Using guides and rulers
Aligning objects (top, center, bottom)
Grouping and layering
Snap to grid
Align and group multiple objects in the flyer design.
Insert content from other sources and maintain formatting.
Importing text from Word
Copy/paste best practices
Formatting imported content
Paste an article from Word into Publisher and adjust the formatting.
Learn how to finalize and share a publication.
Saving as PDF or image
Exporting options
Printing tips: bleed, margins, color settings
Export the flyer as PDF.
Save it for print and for email distribution.
